New Runescape PVP Armour to be Released.

Recently some acquaintances of mine were asked to test out a new adjustment they are going to make to PVP armours. What is special in this armor is that it changes your existing armor to make it look more scary or dangerous.

So we took this oppoturnity and tested it out. We were told not to take any screenshots or leak this out but... Well. I did anyway.

So here they are:

---Notice The Skull on the Ranger gear.

--- and now the skull on the Prayer Cape

The idea is that the more kills you get the better the icon is. They only had coded the normal skull to appear on armor yet which comes from 10 kills. Next step would be 50 kills, then 100 and so on. Not sure what the gap is after 100 but is said to be something better.

Stay tuned for more info

End of Flower/an Alternative. Other Updates

Have you ever wanted to teleport to a location you haven't been to for a while, only to find yourself looking through every icon to find the one you need? Our latest upgrade will put an end to this. The magic interface has a new feature that will enable you arrange your spells by category, and display either combat spells or teleport spells at the top of the interface. The default order will be the current, level-based one. This applies to all magic spell books.

The "you are here" button will now mark where you are on the world map, which you can open by clicking on the globe next to the minimap in the top-right-hand corner. This should make it easier for you to plan your journeys, as you’ll have a much clearer idea of your starting point.

One idea that came from the forums was to add a new teleport option to the ring of duelling so that it takes you to the Fist of Guthix minigame, and also to make the ring react more quickly when it has been activated. So we did exactly that! Thanks for the idea.

We’ve also made a small change to PvP worlds, so now the Teleport Block spell will be available to all players, not just members (although its level and rune requirements will stay the same).

Finally, it is now easier to ask gardeners to chop down trees for you, the LootShare radius is larger (and more symmetrical) than before, and Pikkupstix can now enchant the Slayer helmet for use as a Summoning headdress.

The full list of this week’s patches and fixes is available in the Recent Updates forum.

Enjoy these upgrades, and let us know what you think.

In other news...

You can now refill your plant pots from Farming patches even if you have a crop growing on the patch.

If you need crushed gemstone, such as in the Fairy Tale Part I quest, you can now get it by smashing opals, jade and red topaz with a hammer.

If you completed the Hazeel Cult quest by supporting Hazeel but have lost the Mark of Hazeel, you can now get another one from Clivet.

The "Empty" option on pots of bonemeal has been placed below the "Use" option, so that you don't accidentally empty them quite so often.

Players are no longer allowed to sit around Fletching and alching things while they're meant to be participating in the Great Orb Project.

It seems that some players have been wielding 'fun' weapons in single-way PvP to increase their drop potential. We've changed this so that any players with 'fun' weapons no longer increase their potential.

Ever tried to find a world to play on in the US and not known which would be suitable? Well, now we’ve added several of the states in which RuneScape is most popular to the world-select page. Even if your state isn’t on the list, why not log in to one of the others? This change doesn’t affect the world numbers available, and there’s nothing to stop you from playing on whichever world you choose.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Even though Flowering is now not available there are other ways to kill swap. The easiest way would be do the same thing you did while flowering except this time put on as much negative mage bonus as possible and use wind strike.

Seer's Achievement Diary

http://runescape.salmoneus.net/diaries/images/varrock_map2.png

How far can you see into the future? The seers in their village foresee mountains of flax, adventurers fishing, cooking and cutting wood, and many other challenges in and around Seers’ Village. Are you virtuous enough to use the Piety prayer? Gather your axe and knife (and bring your best flax-picking fingers), and go see what’s in store for you.

Explore the area and discover all the things you hadn’t noticed before. From Catherby to the Ranging Guild, and as far north as the coal trucks and Sinclair Mansion, this diary should keep you busy, and remind you why this is one of the most popular areas in the members’ world.

When you’ve satisfied the seers with your knowledge of the area, you’ll be rewarded with some handy bonuses: Geoffrey will give you some of his glorious...er...flax, maple trees will reveal some of their secrets to make you that little bit wiser, and you’ll discover a new nimbleness in your fingers when using the spinning wheel.

Summary:

Where to start the Seers’ Village Achievement Diary:

Speak to any seer in the Seers’ Village, Stankers by the coal trucks, or Sir Kay in Camelot.

In other news...

Players can now right-click on previously sent private messages to send another message to the same person. This applies whether split chat is on or off.

The alchemy values of the crystal bow and shield have been reduced. We suggest that you check your ‘items kept on death’ interface before PvPing or entering dangerous areas with combinations of these items, just in case it's not quite what you're expecting if you were to die.

The Slayer ring, combat bracelet and the skills necklace have had their 'delays' removed when operating them.

Armies of Gielinor

http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/runescape/images/thumb/9/9b/Yu%27biusk_Ruins.png/180px-Yu%27biusk_Ruins.png

Armies of Gielinor (AoG) is a turn-based strategy game for up to 8 players, and the first FunOrb game to be based on our massively multiplayer adventure game, RuneScape (Gielinor being an alternative name for RuneScape's world). All players start out with a lowly barbarian chieftain and must capture structures, teleport in new units and battle with their enemies to control the mightiest army on Gielinor.

There are a lots of different units, each aligned to the various gods of Gielinor. Some units are very powerful, while others have special abilities that can affect the landscape or introduce various different strategies for you to employ. Can you balance your army's strengths to take on any opponent and emerge victorious?

1. What is a turn-based strategy game?

You and your opponents take it in turns to move and attack with your armies, with the ultimate aim of meeting the victory conditions and winning the game.

2. What do free players get?

Free players can access neutral units and the starting units affiliated to Saradomin, Guthix and Zamorak. Unrated multiplayer games can be played on the standard map. Not all units are available to free players, but the game has been designed to give members more choice in the units they can control, rather than them simply having better units than free players.

3. What do members get?

Members earn runes by playing Rated games, allowing them access to Bandos, Seren and Menaphite units, and all other units in the game. Runes are used on the 'Player Setup - Unit Selection' screen. Members can play on the Misthalin map (standard, temperate terrain), the Kharidian Desert (open space and little vegetation) and the Frozen Wastes (snow, lots of mountains and dense forests). AoG's Achievements can only be earned in Rated games, and some of them unlock items for your coat of arms.

4. How many units are there in the game?

There are 76 units in the game. Each of the six gods offers 11 units, there are 9 neutral units, and all players start each game with a lone barbarian chieftain. If you were wondering, the 9th neutral unit is a red dragon, which only becomes available if another player has already brought in the King Black Dragon (KBD). Free players have access to 27 units, including the barbarian chieftain and KBD.

5. Any tactics or tips you can tell us about?

Here are some tips for playing AoG:

  • Try to capture a portal first...
  • ...and don't leave it unprotected!
  • Capturing structures gains you Victory Points and Mana, and is the key to victory. Placing units on structures heals them and grants them a defence bonus, so capture as many as you can, as quickly as you can.
  • Only barbarians can capture structures, so try to have lots of them at the beginning of each game.
  • Use your barbarian chieftain wisely, as he can capture structures faster than normal barbarians.
  • When units die they become a pile of bones - useful if you have a necromancer...
  • Use terrain to your advantage. Look for choke points and remember what units can move through what terrain.
  • Helper units and those with special abilities can dramatically affect the battle.
  • Make your move quickly, as ending your turn early awards you with bonus Mana.
  • Occupying an enemy-controlled structure reduces how much Mana an opponent earns from it. Obviously, this works both ways.
  • Some units are better at fighting one enemy type than another.
  • Play graciously and, above all, have fun!

6. Where is Gielinor, and what exactly is RuneScape?

RuneScape is another name for Gielinor, the world on which this game is set. It is also the name of Jagex's fantasy-based, massively mutliplayer adventure game. If you haven't heard of it before, or haven't checked it out for yourself yet, why not head over to the RuneScape website by clicking here.

Your FunOrb login and password can be used to access RuneScape too and, as with FunOrb, you can play some of the game for free. We offer a combined RuneScape/FunOrb subscription package, should you wish to become a member of both RuneScape and FunOrb.

7. Will playing Armies of Gielinor affect my RuneScape character?

Other than taking its inspiration from there, AoG is not linked to RuneScape in any way. Playing Armies of Gielinor will have absolutely no impact upon your RuneScape character, and vice versa.

8. When in RuneScape history is Armies of Gielinor set?

Technically, AoG is not set in a specific time period in RuneScape history, but it could be considered to have taken place at some point during the God Wars. It might seem strange to see Saradominist and Zamorakian forces fighting on the same side, but this was a chaotic time in RuneScape history. As such, it is not impossible that enemy factions formed temporary alliances for some greater purpose.

9. Why were specific units chosen? Why didn't you use...?

The units chosen for AoG were carefully considered, based on many factors. We couldn't have included every RuneScape creature AND have had a balanced and fun game. If there are creatures you'd have preferred to see, well...for now, they're still in RuneScape, and we are planning to update Armies of Gielinor at some point in the future, so feel free to tell us what other units you'd like to see. If they fit the game, they may well be included at some point.

10. There are some units in AoG that don't yet exist in RuneScape. Is this a hint that they will?

The short answer is no. Our main aim was to make AoG both balanced and fun, so rather than 'fudge' a match between a special ability in AoG and an existing RuneScape creature, we decided to create some new creatures instead, which fit within the RuneScape universe. There is a chance that these creatures will find their way into RuneScape, but only if and when there is an appropriate opportunity.

11. Is Armies of Gielinor the same thing as Mobilising Armies (a RuneScape minigame)?

No. Armies of Gielinor and Mobilising Armies are, and have always been, two completely separate games.

12. What are the minimum specifications for this game?

The minimum specifications we recommend for this game are:

  • 1.0 GHz
  • 128 MB RAM

The recommended specifications for getting the most out of this game are:

  • 1.5 GHz
  • 256 MB RAM

Below is an explanation of the terms in our technical specifications.

Megahertz (MHz) / Gigahertz (GHz) is a measure of how fast your computer's processor is. This affects how quickly you can run things like games and applications.

Megabytes (MB) are used to measure how much memory your computer has. This affects how quickly your computer runs when using large programs such as games, or when you run a lot of programs at once.

The monster you will face down there...

Spinolyp:

Attacks with: Range and Magic
Max hit: 11
Level: 76

These, surprisingly, will do you the most damage when at the King's (unless you do something incorrect, like use protect from range when Prime is around). It's advised you leave them alone, as they respawn quickly so there's really not much point in killing them unless you're using guthans on them to heal. These also poison you for 6, hence why you should bring a super antipoison potion with you.

Dagannoth Prime:

Attacks with: Magic
Weakness: Range
Max hit: 60
Level: 303

If Prime is around, have magic prayer on!

Dagannoth Rex:

Attacks with: Melee
Weakness: Magic
Max hit: 28
Level: 303

Can cause trouble if he isn't dealt with correctly by the mage, otherwise he's harmless. He doesn't stick to 1 spot and wanders the whole thing, that's why it's important for the magician to attack him as quickly as possible so that he doesn't wander into the range/melee hybrids and hassle them.

Dagannoth Supreme:

Attacks with: Range
Weakness: Melee
Max hit: 30
Level: 303

Not too much trouble caused by him, if you've placed yourself correctly he'll just wander about by himself not attacking anybody.

Behind the Scenes

A new year often brings with it a sense of change or new adventure. For some, this rebirth is a nice, friendly affair, involving a new haircut and a resolution or two. For others, it means complex nesting rituals and a fiery demise...or perhaps a new beginning? Could we be talking about the legendary phoenix?

Our first update of the year is actually one we have been talking about for a while – the new Summoning familiar you voted for during the Summer. Of course, we could have just produced a simple Summoning creature to follow you around and do the occasional funky trick, but we decided that a legendary creature such as the phoenix deserved the full treatment. So, it will have its own tutorial-style quest, in which you learn how to deal with the unusual nesting habits of the giant, fire-drenched beast, AND a repeatable challenge you can take on every day, should you wish.

Once you’ve helped the phoenix you’ll be able to summon a smaller phoenix familiar to help you in battle, just as you would with any other Summoning familiar. Not only will it be able to fight alongside you (dealing Magic damage), it will also have the ability to fire ashes at your opponents, temporarily blinding them and making it harder for them to attack. On top of this, the phoenix will be able to be reborn from the ashes, leaving nearby nasties scorched by the accompanying flames.

We will also be releasing the next of our Achievement Diaries this month – this time set in the peaceful Seers’ Village and its surrounding woods and castles. As always, the intention of the Achievement Diary is to introduce some of the hidden or 'non-quest' activities associated with an area, so expect to be learning all about coal carts, the Piety prayer, forgotten sorcerers, poisoned chalices, pet fish and bullseyes! Rewards include additional experience when cutting down maple trees, and a handy flax picker (similar to Bert, who collects buckets of sand for you after the Hand in the Sand quest).

Another of the changes prepared for January is a great suggestion from our forums – the ability to re-order your spell list. Now, don’t worry, this is totally optional (and the default will still be the 'level order' setting you're currently used to), but you’ll be able to set up the list with the combat spells first, or the teleport spells first, etc. This is all managed via a handy series of buttons at the bottom of each of the three (normal, lunar and ancient) spellbooks. We’re making this change because we feel it could be useful, but if you think it could be even MORE useful, we’d like to know how - please let us know what you think.

Hopefully, you’ll have already read the Behind the Scenes 2009 newspost written by Mod Vince, the new Head of RuneScape. As he said, we intend to spend a lot of time this year reviewing older content, making it more useful and user-friendly, and ensuring that yesterday’s content is of the same standard as tomorrow’s. The changes we plan to make cover all aspects of the game - this month we’ll be increasing the length of the auto-logout timer from the current 90 seconds to about 5 minutes, and a ‘You are here’ arrow on the world map. We’re even looking back over our old word lists, to remove words accidentally starred-out in chat.

Last but not least, we’ll be bringing you a new players’ gallery and the letters from Postie Pete’s January postbag.

Enjoy!
